Gressoney-La-Trinité Guides Fixed-Rope Route

By: Gressoney Monterosa

Ferrata Trinité

This is a privileged route for looking at the village of Trinité from above and for its proximity to the Monte Rosa massif.

It must be said straight away that it is not suitable for everyone, but for those who already have good experience. We would also like to remind less experienced hikers to always rely on a guide before starting out on fixed-rope route, especially if they involve difficult passages.

From the forecourt, looking upwards, one can see the cables of the ferrata and its summit at some antennae.
To the left of the forecourt, a path begins that leads to the start of the route in just over five minutes, to the left of a small rocky base.

The first part climbs the rocks on the right.

It begins immediately with overcoming two cliffs. It continues straight on with less difficulty, until it reaches a ledge of earth and grass.
Here it is possible to exit the route and finish the ascent, reaching the descent path to the right and entering the forest.

From the grassy shelf, continue to the left, following the cable of the fixed-rope route that passes under vertical walls for about fifty metres. Start climbing again, pass some ledges and an edge until reaching the base of a chimney.
Go past it, climb up easy rocks and reach the base of a ladder to the left, which crosses a large overhang.
Nearby there is a clearing that allows one to take a rest.

The last part of the ferrata starts with the crossing of an overhang using a ladder and continuing under a series of small roofs, you exit to the left. Here, care must be taken not to hit your head and right shoulder against the rock outcrops.
You then reach the last rocky band supporting the repeater pylon. Before the summit, it is still necessary to climb over an overhanging wall, followed by an easier rocky section that leads to the finish line near the antenna.
Next to this you will find a service hut and a grassy clearing from which you can enjoy a beautiful panorama.

From here, a following section puts us in front of 2 possible variants:

1. the one on the right (yellow), which is more challenging than the itinerary followed up to this point and which, although short (about 50 metres), requires considerable arm effort as it is vertical and with steps that are quite widely spaced.
2. that on the left (black), which after a Tibetan bridge of a few metres attacks a slightly steep and very tiring wall, advisable only for trained and experienced people.

Descent:
From the antenna, follow the grassy path that starts just behind the small service hut and ascends slightly to the right into the forest.
The small trail climbs up through a few hairpin bends and joins trail no. 11, which cuts through the forest halfway up. Walk slightly downhill (to the right) on path no. 11 until it joins path no. 10.
We then follow trail no. 10 downhill, and after several hairpin bends winding through the forest we pass several avalanche barriers.
The path finally reaches the old stone quarry and ends at the base of the ferrata at an altitude of 1670m.

Obligatory equipment:
Helmet, harness with fixed-rope route kit including two lanyards with mounted dissipator, hiking boots.
