Mountaineering in Gressoney Valley

Our territory is known for the Monte Rosa group with its 21 peaks exceeding 4000 meters which are an essential attraction for mountaineers from all over the world.

There are many mountains that surround the Rosa glaciers and which, with altitudes exceeding 3000 metres, represent an excellent alternative: the ridges and gullies that run along them are in fact a challenge of great charm with a unique view of the valleys and glaciers of the group.

They are rugged mountains that often present such difficulties as to recommend their ascent accompanied by a mountain guide.

These three proposals are among the most suggestive in the Gressoney valley:

Corno Bianco 3320 meters. A tip between Valsesia and Valle del Lys; it can in fact be reached from the two valleys, with a "normal" route which from Riva Valdobbia climbs to Ca 'di Janzo and from here to the Carestia Hut at Alpe Pile. After the Black Lake, the route requires mountaineering skills. Incredible view of the Rosa chain.

Testa Grigia 3311 meters. An imposing mountain located on the watershed between Val d'Ayas and Valle di Gressoney, a true classic among the 3000m of Valle d'Aosta. The greatest difficulties are present in the last stretch of the ridge beyond the Lateltin bivouac. The approach takes place both from Ayas and from Gressoney reaching Col Pinter and from here the plateau where the Lateltin bivouac stands. A wonderful experience is staying overnight in this bivouac with the spectacular sunset and sunrise. The final section of the aerial ridge constitutes the final difficulty of an unforgettable ascent.

Mont Nery 3075 meters. Another summit of great satisfaction and charm, isolated and solitary. It can be reached from both Brusson and Gressoney by reaching the beautiful area of the Frudière lakes, and from here continuing along the north-eastern slope. It is preferable to tackle it at the beginning of the season when there is still a snowfield that facilitates the climb, which in summer is more tiring and treacherous due to the presence of long stony ground. The final stretch on the West ridge is very beautiful.
