Perched on the right bank of the Flua stream, near the rock wall supporting the imposing lateral moraine of the Sesia-Locce glacier, it is an eagle’s nest overlooking the valley. Established in 1966 by the Cai of Vercelli, with contributions from the Barba family (in memory of Nino, long-time President of the Vercelli Section) and the Ferrero family (in memory of their son Luciano, a young mountaineer who succumbed to a severe illness), it was inaugurated on September 1, 1968, and has since been known as the Barba Ferrero.
Today, it is managed by Rifugi Monterosa srl, with the charm and originality of Andrea, who have turned the refuge into a place of excellence.
