Les sentiers des Valdôtains

Les sentiers des Valdôtains

In the heart of the Alps.
An extraordinary 120 km route with 8,300 m of elevation gain that will take you on the exciting journey of approaching two majestic 4000 m peaks of the Alps: the Matterhorn and Monte Rosa. The route will start in Aosta, the beating heart of the Autonomous Region of Valle d'Aosta, with an evocative passage through the valley of Saint-Barthlemy, which with its iconic observatory is a destination for many astronomy enthusiasts. It continues toward Valtournenche along a spectacular balcony overlooking the majestic Matterhorn, for centuries the cross and delight of thousands of mountaineers. Reaching the valley of Cime Bianche you then head into the wide and sunny Val D'Ayas, and it is at this point that runners will begin to admire the largest massif in the Alps, Monte Rosa. This breathtaking view will take you through a succession of typical Walser villages and lead you to the coveted finish line in the Gressoney Valley.

Monte Rosa Trail

Monte Rosa Trail

Route to Monte Rosa.
A beautiful 90-km-long trail with 7,000 m of elevation gain, starting in Pont-Saint-Martin, a town nestled in the vineyards of the Lower Aosta Valley. Immediately after departing from the characteristic Roman bridge, your journey to the Lys Valley will begin, where you will encounter small villages full of magic and tradition. You will then reach Val d'Ayas, passing by the historic castle of Graines, through a succession of magnificent alpine lakes-from which you will be able to admire, among others, the majestic Mount Matterhorn-before heading to the towns of Gressoney-La-Trinité and Gressoney-Saint-Jean, passing the Rothorn pass. A final part of real mountain with breathtaking views will lead you to your destination, and the iconic Monte Rosa will be your companion and accompany you to the finish line in Gressoney-Saint-Jean.

WalserWaeg Trail

WalserWaeg Trail

The trails of the historic Walser community.
An impressive 43-km loop with about 3,200 m of elevation gain that offers incredible views of the ubiquitous Monte Rosa massif. The route includes passing through the Gabiet Dam, the wild Valdobbiola valley, the Ospizio Sottile and the quaint villages of Alpenzu. But the real gem of this route is the ancient Walser trail (WalserWaeg), a legacy of the historic Walser community that settled in these territories starting in 1100 AD and whose descendants still inhabit these valleys, proudly promoting their origins and traditions. Ideal for those who enjoy technical and challenging trails without sacrificing the beauty of the landscapes.

Queen Margaret Trail

Queen Margaret Trail

In the footsteps of Queen Margherita.
Queen Margherita of Savoy, the first sovereign of the Kingdom of Italy, had elected Gressoney as her favorite place for summer vacations, and this race retraces her footsteps by paying homage to her. Runners will tackle a 15-kilometer loop with about 650m of elevation gain that passes through the delightful towns of Gressoney-Saint-Jean and Gressoney-La-Trinité and crosses places rich in tradition such as the characteristic Walser villages of Alpenzu piccolo and Alpenzu grande. In the last stretch, the route joins the famous Queen's Walk, so called because it is the path that Margaret of Savoy often walked, starting from her summer home, the fairy-tale Savoy Castle. An ideal race for those who want to approach the discipline of trail-running while discovering Gressoney.
