What should I pack?

Tips on what to bring on a ski holiday

By: Visit Monterosa

There is no limit to experiencing the mountains and having fun like kids in the snow!

Everyone happens to not know what to pack, especially if it's your first time in the mountains. Before you leave for your trip, we give you some useful tips to prepare for a snowy vacation.

  1. Dress in "layers", it may seem obvious, but in the mountains, temperature ranges and sudden temperature changes require several layers so you can deal with every eventuality. So it's best to have a thick jacket, ski suit, hat, fleece, heavy pants and sweaters with you even for those who don't ski.
  2. Heeled shoes? No thanks. Snow, you know, makes it difficult to move; therefore, we recommend waterproof boots and/or after-ski boots rather than heels or sneakers.
  3. Choose thermic underwear: thermic t-shirts, tights, tank tops. Essential especially for toddlers, the choice of underwear should be stretchy, breathable and lightweight clothing.
  4. Keep your hands warm. Whether you ski or not, gloves or mittens are essential and it is always best to have a spare pair.
  5. Don't forget sunglasses and sunscreen to protect yourself from UV rays. Yes, even in the mountains you have to protect yourself from the sun for a tan in the snow.
  6. Swimsuit, yes you read that right, at the end of a day in the snow, at the lodge or among the Christmas markets, get pampered by the various relaxation areas and spas.
  7. For those who ski, you certainly can't leave your helmet and ski mask at home. Required for everyone, however, is the camera, to capture the moments in Monte Rosa.
